Overall MK Lightning have had a successful season in the Planet Ice National Hockey League, securing second place in the League campaign and reaching the Semi-Final of the Cup. Cameron Hamill joins AIB MK Lightning
Just before the signing deadline at the end of January we were delighted to secure the services of Cameron Hamill on a two-way with Solway Sharks for the rest of the season. 18 year old Cam has experience in our league already this year, having scored 10 points in 32 games for Hull Seahawks. We are really pleased to work with Cam and support his development, and it will be great to see him pull on an MKL jersey for the first time this weekend. Cam will wear the number 87 jersey. Gui Doucet signs as injury cover, plays this weekend Already missing 5 players on GB duty and with Sam Russell still working on his return it is a further blow that illness has forced Deivids Sarkanis to the sidelines for this weekend. Bolstering our forward lines for the rest of the season, we are delighted that Jack Hopkins has put pen to paper with AIB MK Lightning. Jack joins us on a two way arrangement with Nottingham Panthers where he has made 8 appearances so far this season. 18-year-old forward Jack learned his hockey in the Nottingham junior system with a brief spell in Germany followed by a move to Telford Tigers for their 2021-22 league winning season. Rounding out the AIB MK Lightning roster for 2022/23 is an exciting Elite League prospect who joins us on a 2 way contract with Belfast Giants. He was our top scorer and Supporters Club player of the year in 2021/22. He’s also a fantastic guy to have around the club, who has been instrumental this summer in getting everything ready for the new season. He’s celebrating his testimonial on August 20th, and we’re celebrating that Leigh Jamieson is back in our squad for the 2022/23 season. The 2019/20 Milton Keynes Lightning Defenceman of the Year brings over 500 league appearances for MKL as part of a career which also includes Elite experience and international honours at World Championships and Olympic qualifier levels. AIB MK Lightning add to their attack with pacey Latvian winger Deivids Sarkanis
Our second overseas player for 2022/23 is a Latvian winger who was recommended to us by former MK Lightning player Georgs Golovkovs. Please welcome Deivids Sarkanis to the Lightning lineup for 2022/23! 27 year old Deivids was born in Riga, and has spent much of his development career in the Latvian leagues, including a number of seasons in the MHL, the feeder league to the prestigious KHL competition.
