Rio signs for MK Lightning

Young forward signs for 2019/20 season MILTON KEYNES, 22 MAY 2019: No stranger to MK hockey fans, talented youngster Rio Grinell-Parke has signed for the new MK Lightning side as they continue to secure Head Coach Lewis Clifford’s previous signings. At 20 years of age and playing for MK Thunder under Clifford, left-handed Rio scored 20 goals with 36 points over the last two seasons. Last season he also made two appearances for MK Lightning in the Elite League and didn’t look out of his depth in strong company with many amongst the Lightning faithful hoping to see more of him. Another player with international experience, Rio played for Great Britain U18 during the 2017 World Junior Championships alongside senior GB stalwart Liam Kirk. Jordan Lawday confirmed for MK Lightning

Goaltender Jordan Lawday signs for MK Lightning 2019/20 Season MILTON KEYNES, 21 MAY 2019: Speaking at the MK Lightning Supporters Club AGM last night, Head Coach Lewis Clifford confirmed that Jordan Lawday has put pen to paper on his move to the revitalised MK Lightning team. Cliff and Jordan are no strangers to one another after Jordan’s impressive season with MK Thunder last year that saw him deliver an impressive .914 save percentage. Russell Cowley joins Revitalised MK Lightning

MILTON KEYNES, 19 MAY 2019: MK Lightning are delighted to announce that Russell Cowley has signed for the 2019/20 season. Previously signed under Head Coach Lewis Clifford and the former management team, Russ has now transferred to Milton Keynes Ice Hockey Club and will play for MK Lightning in the inaugural season of the NIHL National Pision. Having just signed, Russ shared his thoughts  “With the recent negative publicity surrounding MK I wasn’t sure about committing to next season. MK Lightning NIHL National Division 2019/20

OWN & LOAN We are thrilled to be working closely with the MK Lightning Supporters Club who are an integral part of the hockey family. As we prepare to announce players signing for the club, it seems the right time to remind supporters of the hugely popular "Own and Loan" Jersey scheme. The scheme is run by the Supporters Club as part of their fantastic fundraising efforts for the team. UPDATE: The League has decided that all teams will swap their home and away jerseys over at the midpoint of the season. This means that the "Home" (light colour) jersey will be worn for home games in the first half of the season and the "Away" (dark colour) jersey will be worn for the second half of the season. Lewis Clifford Confirmed as Head Coach

After recent management changes, Lewis Clifford has signed as MK Lightning’s Head Coach for 2019/20 MILTON KEYNES, 17 MAY 2019: Milton Keynes Ice Hockey Club (MKIHC) are delighted to confirm Lewis Clifford as MK Lightning Head Coach for the upcoming NIHL National pision season. MKL's recent change of ownership means that staff and players need to sign for the new organisation and Cliff is the first appointment since the change. Cliff brings a wealth of hockey experience to the team including several years as coach of MK Thunder. He is no stranger to MK Lightning as Assistant Coach for six seasons and also having helped them last season while they navigated some challenging times. Let’s Play Hockey secures place in inaugural National Division of the NIHL

Planet Ice confirm that "Let's Play Hockey" will ice the Milton Keynes National pision NIHL team for the 2019/20 season MILTON KEYNES, 14 MAY 2019: After an eventful day, Planet Ice confirm that they have offered Milton Keynes Ice Hockey Club Limited (MKIHC) the opportunity to manage the Milton Keynes-based National pision NIHL team for the 2019/20 season. Furthermore, the team behind “Let’s Play Hockey” have accepted the offer and are pleased to confirm that Milton Keynes will enter the National pision under their management. Since announcing this morning that the Elite League had decided not to award them a place for the upcoming season, the MKIHC has moved quickly to finalise a review of the business model required for NIHL. Milton Keynes unable to play in Elite Ice Hockey League for 2019/20

Milton Keynes Ice Hockey Club (Lets Play Hockey) today received confirmation that it will not be permitted to play in the Elite Ice Hockey League MILTON KEYNES, 14 MAY 2019: The supporter-run business, Milton Keynes Ice Hockey Club Limited (MKIHC) - owners of the “Lets Play Hockey Elite League bid” – learned today that despite further discussions with the Elite Ice Hockey League and Planet Ice, it has been unsuccessful in its bid to secure Elite League hockey for Milton Keynes. Despite a sound business plan and strategic focus, the poor management of MK Lightning over the past two years and an increasingly alarming picture of alleged liabilities and defaults in payments to last season’s players and suppliers proved too much for the Elite League Board to sanction a new Milton Keynes team for the upcoming season.
