“Last season Harry was deservedly our most improved player, which is testament to the hard work he put in and the positive attitude he bought to the room, bench and ice every night.” These are the words of MK Lightning Head Coach Lewis Clifford as he described our latest signing for 2020/21. Please welcome back Harry Ferguson for his third MK Lightning season.
21-year-old Harry was born in Elgin the north of Scotland, and spent the early part of his career in Moray and Edinburgh, including over 70 Elite League games with Murrayfield / Edinburgh Capitals. He spent a brief period in the New Zealand league before returning to the UK to Milton Keynes in Lightning’s final Elite League season, via a short stint in Peterborough. Last year, he made 45 MKL appearances, picking up 12 goals and 12 assists, and 97 minutes in penalties.
Cliff had this to say about last year’s performance from Harry saying: “It took us a while to get Harry playing how we wanted and to his potential, but when we did he was a huge contributor night after night and helped himself to a healthy points total.”
Harry is clearly happy to be returning, as he told us: “I am over the moon to know that I’m coming back to Milton Keynes and dying to get back into the MKL colours for what I personally feel will be a fantastic season.”
He went on to share his ambitions for the upcoming year, and like all of our MKL signings he’s hungry for success and also paid tribute to the amazing MKL fans: “I’m really happy to be contributing towards competing to win some silverware this season, and I would like to say a huge thank you to all the fans last year. I hope you’re all as excited as I am!”
Talking about the attributes Harry brings to the team, Cliff believes Harry has something to offer across a number of different dimensions: “Harry’s a great team player, he works hard for the jersey every night, he is a big body with a good skill set and skates well. I’m really happy to have Harry back in the team for next season.”
We’re all delighted too Cliff. Harry made tremendous progress in his game last year, and was a real fan favourite. Not only was he voted Most Improved Player, but he was also the Supporters’ Club’s selection for Player of the Year. This means that he’s sure to be a very popular player to have back on the team, and we’re looking forward to seeing him pull on that number 14 jersey when the season begins.
Please give a warm welcome to Harry Ferguson
