Our second overseas player for 2022/23 is a Latvian winger who was recommended to us by former MK Lightning player Georgs Golovkovs. Please welcome Deivids Sarkanis to the Lightning lineup for 2022/23!
27 year old Deivids was born in Riga, and has spent much of his development career in the Latvian leagues, including a number of seasons in the MHL, the feeder league to the prestigious KHL competition. In his career Deivids has also made a handful of KHL appearances himself, most recently in 2019/20.
After he finished his junior development at the age of 20, he spent some time in the top leagues in Europes, with stints at Morzine in France, Kitzbüheler EC in the Alps league, and then finished the 2016/17 season with Nottingham Panthers in the Elite League. Since then, he has returned to the Latvian leagues, with a spell in Sweden in the 2020/21 season.
AIB MK Lighting’s Tim Wallace told is what he sees in this signing: “Deivids has a great attitude and brings speed and skill to the lineup. I was happy to hear that he had some connections in England and wanted to try something new. Deivids is a true pro with some experience in some solid leagues who should be very exciting to watch.”
Deivids himself is looking forward to joining, and said: “I was really hoping to sign with Milton Keynes Lightning and be part of the team. I have heard a lot of good things about them and me and my family are very happy and excited about it. I’m going to work hard and do my best for the team and staff to achieve everything that is on the plan. I cant wait for the season to start.”
