With the Milton Keynes Lightning team nearing completion, we’re delighted to confirm the return of our defensive rock Lewis Christie for an 11th season in MKL colours.  30 year old Edinburgh born Lewy brings vast experience with him from a distinguished career across the British leagues and international representation at under 18 and under 20 level.  Last season he made 40 appearances picking up a goal and 6 assists in a season which started late when Lewy stepped into the roster as short term injury cover after which we could never let him go!

Lewy is thrilled to be back in the squad for another year: “We have a really solid team this year so I am really looking forward to playing for the team.  After 11 years with the club it was an easy decision for me to make to sign with MKL.  I’m hoping that this season can start as soon as possible in these uncertain times and we can get a chance to win some silverware!”

MKL Head Coach Lewis Clifford is equally pleased to have Lewy’s consistency on the roster: “Lewy is ever dependable, he eats up ice time 5 on 5 and even more so on the penalty kill and does all the little bits in the D zone that you need as a team but go largely unnoticed to people outside the team. His teammates know exactly what he brings to the team and how effective he is in our end.”

We were massively grateful to Lewy for stepping up to support the team last year, and despite missing out on the usual pre-season, he made a strong contribution which he’s looking to build on this year as Cliff explains: “Lewy came back to help us last year when we were short and wasn’t in his usual game shape as he wasn’t expecting to play and he still never missed a step.  This summer he’s been working hard to get himself back into game shape and I’m sure we will see the benefits of that once the season commences.”

With just a couple of slots left to announce on the roster, Cliff shared some views on how his team is coming together and talked about his new signings: “Overall the team is nearly complete, we are looking strong in all the right areas.  Consistency is key for me this time around and the turnover percentage within the playing staff is small, but all the new signings bring something to the team that we were lacking or in need of increasing.  Ed Knaggs and Bobby Chamberlain are guys I’ve coached before and I know how they work and how they will benefit the team, whilst Eddie Bebris is one of the premium forwards in the league and will have an offensive impact for us night after night.

Cliff gave his final word though about today’s signing of Lewy: “I’m really happy to have Lewy back in an MKL jersey for next season!”

Lewis Christie will wear the number 66 jersey which is now available for Own and Loan.
