“Player progression is a vital part of our ethos of running the club” said Milton Keynes Lightning CEO Claire Eason-Bassett.  That’s why we are thrilled to introduce you to an exciting young prospect who is making his step up into senior hockey for the first time.  Please welcome Callum Field to MKL.

Northampton born Callum turned 16 just a month ago, and spent the majority of last season training with the MKL squad.  He brings good size, athleticism and a high compete level which will stand him in great stead for the next part of his development.  So far in his career he has made appearances for Milton Keynes, Sheffield and Nottingham juniors as well as a couple of stints in the Ontario junior system in Canada.

MK Lightning Head Coach Lewis Clifford told us about Callum: “He is a young man with a lot of potential to go a long way in the game, and we are looking forward to helping him develop from a good junior into a good senior as he matures in age.  I felt that Callum benefitted a lot from being on the ice with us last year and he came on in leaps and bounds,”

Cliff’s plan is that Callum will start to grab some shifts and feature on the ice as the season progresses, and believes that this will help him build on last year’s progress and continue to develop: “It’s my intention to get him playing and give him the right amount of exposure to ice time that benefits both him as a player as well as us as a team and he is focussed on earning that ice time and working hard for the team by seizing the opportunities he gets.”

For Callum, the step up from juniors to Lightning is something he’s very much looking forward to: “I am really excited to be joining the team especially as I started playing hockey as a junior in MK.  Having spent last season training with MKL whilst still playing junior hockey I am now really looking forward to taking my development to the next level”.

And it’s having worked with Callum as a junior that Cliff knows him well and is pleased to working with him again: “As a former MK junior I have known Callum for a long time and I’m excited to be working with him during his next step of development.”

We’ll finish by letting Callum himself sum it all up: “Having spoken to Cliff about his expectations of me I cannot wait to get started and play in such an exciting team.”

Welcome Callum – we’re delighted that you’ve made the step up, and we’re really pleased to have you back in the #mkhockeyfamily.  Give us a goal!
