Here at Milton Keynes, we are very proud of our players and their victories, which is represented by the now to be 11 – lightning bolts that you may have noticed on the back of their jerseys. 

We carry these as a symbol of pride and our battles which we have fought hard in and emerged victorious – Each bolt represents a major title that we have won since our founding back in 2002, which includes Cup wins, Playoff victories and League winners.

Here’s a full rundown off all the Championships so far: 

EPIHL Playoff Champions (2002/03)

  • This was lightning’s first Playoff Championship, where MKL defeated the Peterborough phantoms 16-4 on aggregate in the play-off final. Some significant players who helped them win this were Nick Poole, Greg Randall and Dwayne Newman.. along with many others!

EPIHL League Champions (2003/04)

  • In this campaign, Lightning won their first of three EPIHL league championships, which was truly a revolutionary moment for the newly established team.

EPIHL Playoff Champions (2003/04)

  • This was lightning’s second Playoff Championships where they defeated the Slough Jets, winning the final over two legs and retaining their Playoff title.

EPIHL League Champions (2004/05)

  • Lightning retained their league title, taking part in the cross-over winter cup with Peterborough. Some vital players to this win were the new signings of Greg  Randall’s brother Jamie, and Steve Carpenter.

EPIHL Playoff Champions (2004/05)

  • This was Lightning’s third Playoff Championship, the final taking place in the Coventry Skydome MKL defeated Peterborough Phantoms. 

EPIHL Playoff Champions (2005/06)

  • Lightning’s fourth Playoff Championship, defeating the Berkshire Bees, and with Ketola scoring a hat-trick.

EPIHL League Champions (2009/10)

  • Lightning defied the odds, winning a third league title and having had many changes occurring in the team, the most well-known being Leigh Jamieson returning to Milton Keynes after several seasons in the Elite League with Belfast and Coventry. In this time, the Captaincy would also pass on to Adam Carr after top point scorer Gary Clarke left.

EPIHL Cup Winners (2016/17)

  • This was Lightning’s first cup, with captain Adam Carr scoring the winning penalty in a shootout at a sold out final second leg in MK. This game will forever be remembered as iconic and never to be forgotten.

EPIHL Playoff Champions (2016/17)

  • This was Lightning’s fifth Playoff championship, where they won the last ever EPIHIL game after beating Telford 7-2 in the final. This victory, coming just weeks after their English Premier League Cup triumph, cemented the team as the city’s most successful professional sports club.

NIHL National Cup Winners (2023/24)

  • This was Lightning’s second cup, where they won by defeating Hull Seahawks 10-5 on aggregate. That year, there were many new signings, including Toms Rutkis from Dundee, Harry Gulliver from Romford and Carter Hamill from Leeds, who all played their part in assisting with this victory.

NIHL National Playoff Champions (2024/25)

  • This was Lightning’s most recent victory, where MK Lightning defeated the Peterborough Phantoms 6-1 in the Playoff grand finale. This amazing result was helped significantly by Jordan Hedley’s outstanding performance, saving 21 / 22 shots – an astounding number. Ross Venus was also a key player, scoring 2 goals, with many other players having outstanding performances such as James Griffin, Jordan Cownie, Ben Solder and Harry Gulliver.

Each Lightning Bolt represents a major championship win in our club’s proud history. A symbol of the success we’ve built together — on and off the ice. And we are sure there’s many more to be had in the future!
