Continuing our theme of team continuity, we’re delighted to let you know that Hallden Barnes-Garner is returning to MK Lightning for 2020/21. An MK junior, he spent time developing his hockey in Slough and Austria playing in the Eastern European junior league as well as time with MK Thunder before joining MKL last year.

MKL Head Coach Lewis Clifford places massive stock in the performance and function of the team as a unit and picks players who will contribute to the whole. Halds is exactly in this mould as Cliff explains: “Halds is one of the best team guys you could wish for. He is loved by his teammates and always puts the team before himself.

Hallden appeared 42 times for MKL last year, bagging a goal and 20 PIMs for his efforts. He took crucial shifts to take the pressure off the top lines and mix up the on-ice action, often disrupting opposition teams with his positioning, work ethic, and physicality.

Still relatively young, Cliff sees Halds further developing his game over the coming year: “It’s a strange offseason but I know Halds is working hard on his game as best he can without access to the gym or rink, and I know he will come back pushing for a bigger on-ice role on the team next season. There is no doubt in my mind that he can achieve that.”

Halds is pleased to be back and feels a similar sense of last season being cut short as some of his teammates saying: “I’m delighted to be re-signing with Lightning. I feel like there is a lot of unfinished business and after speaking with Cliff I think that this roster has the potential to do some very special things and make the fans proud.”

Cliff finished by sharing his delight having Halds back in the roster: “I’m more than happy to have Halds on the team. He’s a great guy with a great attitude and it’s easy to forget he’s still only 22. I coached him here when he was a youngster before he went elsewhere for a few years and I’m happy to keep working with him now.”

Hallden Barnes-Garner will wear the number 41 jersey. It is now available for Own and Loan.
