Young forward signs for 2019/20 season

MILTON KEYNES, 22 MAY 2019: No stranger to MK hockey fans, talented youngster Rio Grinell-Parke has signed for the new MK Lightning side as they continue to secure Head Coach Lewis Clifford’s previous signings.

At 20 years of age and playing for MK Thunder under Clifford, left-handed Rio scored 20 goals with 36 points over the last two seasons.

Last season he also made two appearances for MK Lightning in the Elite League and didn’t look out of his depth in strong company with many amongst the Lightning faithful hoping to see more of him.

Another player with international experience, Rio played for Great Britain U18 during the 2017 World Junior Championships alongside senior GB stalwart Liam Kirk.

Talking ahead of the new season, Rio said “I’m really excited to be a part of this new set up at MK – I think that it is a good step in the right direction. I’m glad we can now move forwards after everything that has happened.”

“It will be good to focus on giving the fans a team that is willing to compete for them and hopefully bring back the spark to MK – something that both fans and players deserve.”

“I think this opportunity will give me a good challenge and will bring the best out of me for the upcoming season. I have enjoyed playing for Cliff over the past two seasons and can’t wait.”

Rio has a bright future as Head Coach Clifford comments “Rio has worked really hard for this opportunity and I am really happy that he is joining us.”

“His appearances for Lightning will mean that many recognise him and I’m sure fans will love his turn of speed and instinctive attacking qualities.”

“Alongside all of this, Rio is still a young man, keen to learn and his work rate and willingness to be coached will help him play a big part in this latest MK Lightning adventure.”

Please join us in welcoming Rio to the MK Lightning fold once again.
