Last Week's Man of the Match
10 - Toms Rutkis

1 - Jordan Hedley

Toms Rutkis was the standout performer on Saturday night, delivering a powerful display to drive Milton Keynes Lightning to victory over the Telford Tigers. Netting twice, Rutkis showed clinical finishing when it mattered most, but his impact went far beyond the scoresheet. Bringing relentless energy and intensity to every shift, he was a constant presence on the ice, applying pressure and setting the tone for the team. A deserved Man of the Match performance that played a key role in securing the win.
Jordan Hedley earns the Man of the Match honours after a composed and hard-working performance between the pipes on Sunday. Facing a steady stream of chances from Telford, Hedley stood tall, reading the play well and shutting the door when it mattered most. His sharp reactions and calm presence under pressure kept Lightning in control, turning away everything thrown his way.
Coach's Comments
Lewis Christie - MKL Interim Head Coach

On Saturday, we started slowly and were on the back foot early as Telford came out with real intensity. It took us a while to settle, but once we did, the momentum shifted. The second period was key, four unanswered goals gave us control, confidence, and allowed us to play the way we expect.
Sunday was a different challenge. It was evenly matched after the first, but the five-minute major penalty kill demanded a huge effort from the group. The players showed great discipline and commitment, but it took its toll, and fatigue became a factor as the game went on.
There are positives to take and lessons to learn. We’ll recover, reset, and be ready to go again next weekend.

Player Profile

Archie Salisbury – Defence (#4)
At just 18, Archie Salisbury has already shown he belongs at senior level with his fearless, physical approach to defending. Strong through his core and eager to engage, he relishes contact and is quick to close down space in his own zone. As his reads and puck movement continue to develop, Salisbury’s blend of size and bite make him a difficult match-up for opposing forwards. He’s the kind of young blue-liner who energises a building with a big hit or a timely block. Number 4 is one of the most exciting prospects on the Lightning blue line.

Leeds Knights: Notable Players
Kieran Brown

Kieran Brown remains the headline threat in yellow and blue, a forward whose consistency at NIHL level has been sustained over several seasons. His output in 2024–2025 underlines that point, combining high-end finishing with playmaking that keeps defences guessing (2024–2025 • NIHL • Leeds Knights: GP 48, G–A–P 53–49–102, PIM 75). Even in the current campaign he continues to produce at a strong rate, and his ability to dictate tempo in the offensive zone makes him the player Lightning must track closely. Give him time or space and he will turn it into chances.
Matt Bissonnette

Another key piece is Matt Bissonnette, whose game is built around vision and distribution rather than pure scoring. His 2024–2025 NIHL numbers highlight just how influential he can be when orchestrating from deeper positions (2024–2025 • NIHL • Leeds Knights: GP 54, G–A–P 22–67–89, PIM 16). Bissonnette’s experience across multiple leagues shows in his composure on the puck, and he is often the link that turns possession into sustained pressure. Limiting his time to pick passes will be central to disrupting Leeds’ rhythm.
Bowdyn Neely

Finally, Bowdyn Neely offers a different kind of threat from the back end, contributing steadily while maintaining defensive responsibility. His most recent NIHL season shows a reliable return from the blue line, supporting attacks without sacrificing structure (2025–2026 • NIHL • Leeds Knights: GP 52, G–A–P 3–28–31, PIM 10). Neely reads the play well and moves the puck efficiently, often initiating transitions that catch opponents off balance. His involvement in build-up play makes him an important piece in how Leeds progress the puck up ice.
