Last Week's Man of the Match

63 - Janne Jokinen
13 - Illia Korenchuk

On Saturday night, the honours went to Janne Jokinen, who delivered a standout performance with two goals and an assist. Janne worked tirelessly at both ends of the ice, showing determination, grit, and creativity in every shift. His two crucial goals played a major role in securing an important home victory for Lightning, and his overall contribution set the tone for a strong team performance in front of the Thunderdome crowd.

On Sunday in Swindon, after a hard-fought, fast-paced battle, it was Illia Korenchuk who earned the award. Illia made an immediate impact by setting up Lightning’s first goal of the night and continued to showcase his speed, skill, and relentless drive throughout the game. In a tightly contested matchup, his work rate and on-ice intelligence stood out, making him a deserved Man of the Match.

Coach's Comments

Tim Wallace - MKL Head Coach
Tim Wallace MK Lightning Coach 25/26

This past Saturday, the crowd was behind us and really got us going throughout the game. As we progressed, we found our legs and our structure, and I was especially pleased with how we limited their chances in the third while generating offense from playing in the offensive zone. Sunday’s game felt like a playoff battle—physical and demanding for everyone, and I’m proud of the way our guys laid it on the line. We’ll regroup this week, and hopefully we get some guys healed up, and come ready to work for Saturday’s matchup against Solway. Let’s keep pushing in the right direction!

Player Profile

86 - Sean Norris

Sean Norris – Forward (#86)

Sean Norris is one of the NIHL’s most clinical forwards, combining explosive speed with a lethal scoring touch. The 25-year-old has not only excelled in the NIHL but also gained valuable Elite League experience with Belfast Giants and Guildford Flames, as well as representing Great Britain at World Championship and Olympic Qualifier level. In 2024/25, despite being limited to just 31 games, Norris produced at over a point-per-game pace with 21 goals and 20 assists for 41 points — underlining his ability to change the course of a game whenever he is on the ice. A natural finisher, he finds pockets of space and punishes defences with his quick release, while his pace makes him a constant threat on the rush. With international pedigree and top-flight experience to his name, number 86 is not only one of MK’s most dangerous offensive weapons but also a proven competitor on the biggest stages.

View from the Coach “Sean is a pure scorer. He has that ability to find chances and finish them, and his speed makes him hard to contain. He’s a player who makes a difference every time he’s in the line-up,” said Tim Wallace.

Solway Sharks: Notable Players

Jordan Buesa

Jordan Buesa (#34, Solway Sharks) returns to Milton Keynes as one of Solway’s most travelled forwards, and his path through junior, EIHL and NIHL hockey shows in the way he controls possession. His recent spell with Leeds underlined his ability to drive offence, producing a strong NIHL return in 2023–2024 (2023–2024 • NIHL • Leeds Knights: GP 44, G–A–P 25–27–52, PIM 66). Known for his tenacity and physical presence, Buesa brings energy each shift. He excels in forechecking, creating turnovers, and using his speed to support offence. His grit, work ethic and ability to compete in all zones make him a valued part of the Sharks lineup this season.

Dylan Stewart

Dylan Stewart (#9) brings a very different energy to the Sharks’ attack. After years of jumping between North American junior, WHL and ACAC hockey, he arrives in the NIHL with a reputation for blending pace with directness. His 2025–2026 start shows exactly that (2025–2026 • NIHL • Solway Sharks: GP 17, G–A–P 12–12–24, PIM 6). The WHL grounding, including a full 68-game season with Prince Albert in 2014–2015, gave him a straight-line competitiveness that translates well in British rinks. Solway lean on him to break pressure, carry speed through the neutral zone and turn loose pucks into scoring chances.

Olivier Arseneau

Olivier Arseneau (#5) anchors the Sharks’ blue line with a calmness earned from a long route through Canadian junior and university hockey. His NIHL numbers from 2023–2024 remain a benchmark for a two-way defenceman at this level (2023–2024 • NIHL • Solway Sharks: GP 54, G–A–P 10–45–55, PIM 40). Steady in retrievals and smart in transition, he rarely forces plays, instead moving the puck early and allowing Solway’s forwards to build speed. Olivier offers dependable defence and strong positioning. His steady play and leadership make him a valuable anchor for Solway tonight.
