A few months on from backstopping a win in the autumn Streaming Series, we’re absolutely delighted that Brandon Stones has committed to AIB Milton Keynes Lightning for the 2021/22 Season.

28 year old Brandon first joined MKL in 2019 after a number of years split between Sheffield and Nottingham, with a handful of Elite League appearances in the mix too.  He made international appearances for GB at Under 18 level, and iced 21 times for MKL in the 2019/20 season, returning a 89.4% save percentage.

Overall, Brandon made a hugely impressive and mature contribution during his first MKL season, and is much loved by fans and teammates alike for being cool and calm, and for being a brilliant team player.  MKL Head Coach Lewis Clifford recognised this by naming Brandon as his ‘Coach’s Player of the Year’ for the 19/20 season.

Clifford had this to say about Stones’ return: “Stonesy is a guy who loves playing in MK, he is a popular player amongst his peers, and as a coach he is low maintenance and does everything asked of him every time he comes to the rink.”

He went on to say “Last season didn’t really happen but the one game he got to play in, he was excellent and took charge of the crease, making all the saves he should make, and some he probably shouldn’t have stopped as well.”

Brandon himself is excited to be returning, and is looking forward to facing some shots once more after the extended break between seasons: “I’m really excited to be back in MK for the upcoming season. My first year here was a bit injury plagued and last year was hard to come by games/ice due to the pandemic so I view this season as an opportunity to show what I’m capable of on a consistent basis. There was never a doubt that I’d love to return to MK and can’t wait to get going and give everything I have for the club, fans and teammates. I have no doubt we will be challenging for honours across the season!”

Cliff finished by giving us some insight into Brandon’s role this season: “I know Stonesy wants more responsibility this coming season, and I intend to give him more game time than he has had here previously, I don’t doubt that he will turn up for the season with the attitude and desire to battle for his ice time and show us all what he’s capable of.”

Please welcome our first netminder signing for 2021/22 – Brandon Stones.  He will wear his familiar number 29 shirt for which the Own and Loan will roll over for the person who grabbed it for the 2020/21 season – Dave Bunyan will be in touch shortly!
