The amazing Milton Keynes Lightning Supporters Club have once again shown how much they care, and what they can do.  Here’s what they had to say:

During what are tough and worrying times at the present, it’s fair to say that there are a lot of people on the front line who are going above and beyond during this crisis. As a Supporters Club, we have always prided ourselves on supporting and championing good causes, so when some of our members approached us asking if it was possible to support the good work being done by the local hospital and NHS as a whole, we decided to do something.

Milton Keynes Lightning and the MKL Supporters Club are delighted to help launch “May…We Make A Difference”, a campaign in May to say thank you to our wonderful NHS and to help raise funds for the local hospital through the Milton Keynes Hospital Charity (https://www.mkhcharity.org.uk/ )

The SC will be producing a range of merchandise such as hoodies, t-shirts, pucks and mugs in a sky blue colour which will incorporate MKL and the hospital logo. These are available now to order exclusively on the MK Lightning shop, with profits being split 50/50 between the charity and the club.

Jenny Howells, Senior Fundraiser at the MK Hospital NHS Foundation Trust said,

“We are really pleased to have the support of Milton Keynes Lightning who are fundraising for our charity, and in particular our Covid-19 Appeal which is helping us to take care of staff working at Milton Keynes University Hospital. May we invite you to get involved and help us make a difference”.

Dave Bunyan, chairman of the MKL Supporters Club said,

“The Supporters Club has always had a close and healthy relationship with the local hospital. In the past we have held various fundraising events and our fans have always got right behind them wholeheartedly. It was only last season we held our charity month raising funds for the Cancer Centre Appeal and also the teddy bear toss at Christmas where Lewis Clifford and the team visited the hospital and visited various wards handing out the teddies donated by the fans.

At MKL we have many of our fans, owners, players, players loved one’s etc all working on the front line during the battle against the Covid-19 virus. We just wanted to show our appreciation for their dedication and stupendous efforts they are currently carrying out. We strongly urge all our fans to get right behind what we are trying to do for these special members of the MK ice hockey family”.

Claire Eason-Bassett, CEO of MK Lightning said,

“We are delighted to do what we can to recognise and support the wonderful work that frontline NHS workers and the Milton Keynes Hospital are doing at this toughest of times for the whole world.  When the Supporters Club told us what they wanted to do, we thought it was a brilliant idea and we’re very happy to be doing this as a Club and Supporters Club working together.  A number of our team are working or volunteering in the front lines right now, so this is a cause which is very close to our hearts.”

The merchandise is available now and throughout the month of May. We give thanks to and are proud of each and every person who is connected to our club that is working on the front line against this terrible virus at this time.
