He emerged as our starting nettie last year, finishing the season with a great playoff run including the very first shutout for a zeus shirted MK netminder.  We’re delighted that Matt Smital is returning in net for All In Black MKL for 2022/23!

23 year old Matt was born in Brno in the Czech republic and by virtue of his junior experience with Bracknell qualifies as a ‘British Trained Player’ under league rules.  Matt previously played for Slough Jets where he spent the 19/20 regular season and 20/21 cup series.  Last year in a Lightning shirt he played 37 times and posted a save % of 88.3%.

AIB MK Lightning’s Tim Wallace  told us about Matt: “Smits did well for us last year, particularly in the playoffs and is looking to develop further this year.  He’s still a young man, and will have the chance to work on all aspects of his game over the coming season as he consolidates his position as an NIHL National goaltender.  He brings good size and covers a lot of the net. Smits has a great work ethic and has a lot of potential. I’m looking forward to working with him and will aim to support him in building both the physical and mental sides of his performance”

Those who know Smits see that he’s never one for big speeches so it was a typically short quote on how he feels to be back!  Matt said: “I am happy to be back for another season at MK and looking forward to playing in front of an electric crowd.”  Short but sweet!

Matt will wear the number 32 jersey and the Own and Loan is now available.  Please email dave@b2promodesign.com for details!
