Milton Keynes Lightning goaltending duties are in safe hands as we welcome back Jordan Lawday to the squad.  21 year old Jordan will be starting his third MK season after stepping up from MK Thunder to join Lightning at the beginning of last year.  He made 37 appearances and posted a 89.8% save percentage.

His strong 2019/20 season was unfortunately interrupted mid-way through the year by an injury as Lightning Head Coach Lewis Clifford explains: “Jordan had a bit of a stop start season last time round, but he showed in his performances why he’s so highly thought of in UK hockey circles. Since I first coached Jordan in the under 15’s I have seen him develop, improve and grow, and get better every year.”

Jordan himself felt his disrupted season affected his consistency a little, and is keen to get back at it: “I personally didn’t perform how I wanted to last year but it’s been a long summer of training and I can’t wait to get back on the ice in a Milton Keynes Lightning jersey.”  We can testify that Jordan is a player who is truly dedicated to his craft, and his work ethic in preparing for the season is fantastic to see.

He’s given some great performances in an MKL jersey already, so it’s easy to forget sometimes that he’s only 21 and Cliff is looking forward to supporting his development: “At such a young age, he has many years ahead of him, and I have no doubt he will go from being a very good goalie to one of the very best in the country.”

In building out his goaltending team, Cliff is very happy to have a top quality pairing which will give the rest of the team confidence to play their own game and push for wins.  Jordan is a massive part of this confidence building as Cliff says: “We feel safe when Jordan is between the pipes and partnered with Stonesy I believe we have as good of a pair of goalies as anyone in the league.”

We’ll leave the last word to Jordan who told us what he’s looking forward to when he returns: “I’m really excited to be back at MKL for next season and looking forward to hearing the Barmy Army at full force again showing everyone why MK has the best fans and atmosphere in the league!”  We totally agree with that Jordan!  Welcome back.
