The firepower continues to build for MKL as we welcome Bobby Chamberlain to the Lightning roster. 25-year-old Bobby joins us from Hull Pirates where he spent the previous 3 seasons, in a career that primarily centres around Hull teams, but which includes over 80 EPIHL games for MKL where he picked up 69 points. Bobby scored 37 goals and 71 points in 37 appearances in 2019/20 earning him 9th spot in the overall league scoring charts.

This is a thrilling signing for MKL as Head Coach Lewis Clifford explains: “Bobby is a huge character and someone who I’m very excited to have in a MKL shirt when the season starts.”

“Over the last few seasons, his offensive stats have spoken for themselves, but that really is only a small part of the package we have brought him here for. He is a guy who will do whatever is needed for the team, whether it’s scoring an important goal, opening up space for his line mates or blocking a shot, he will do anything he needs to for the team.” continued Cliff.

Last season’s impressive points haul was gained despite missing a few fixtures, and it’s something which Cliff will work on with Bobby from both a discipline and medical point of view: “Bobby has missed some hockey through injury and suspensions the last few years, but he will come here focussed to play all season. He has an undeniable physical game but he knows when he’s playing here there is a time and a place for everything, and I trust him to always put the team first.”

Bobby similarly feels that he wants to let his hockey do all the talking this year and he is highly motivated: “I feel like this offseason I’ve had a lot of doubters and negativity and I can’t wait to shut all of that down and do what I do best, prove everyone wrong and turn up when it counts.”

Bobby continued by talking about his excitement at returning to MKL and getting back to playing hockey and paid tribute to a fanbase he knows and loves: “It’s been a bit of a crazy year for everyone but I can’t wait to get back on the ice, especially in MK which has always been my favourite place to play. The fans are loyal and get behind the team no matter what, which you can always respect.”

He has also seen the transition which MKL has been through since the end of the 2018/19 season and now feels that MKL is in great shape. He’s keen to get cracking: “There was some unstableness a couple of years back but now it seems to be an amazingly run club again, so now’s the time to get behind the lads and look forward to some silverware again and being the big dogs once again.”
