In our third new arrival of the summer we are thrilled to see the return of a well-known and highly rated player to MK Lightning. Please welcome back Ed Knaggs.
22 year old Hemel born Ed first appeared in a Lightning jersey in the 2014/15 season and despite his tender age has built great experience in the Elite League, NIHL and as a GB international at under 18 and under 20 level. He joins us from Bracknell Bees where he spent last season, picking up 3 goals and 29 assists in 48 games – his most productive season yet in terms of points.
With consistency the theme in MK Lightning Head Coach Lewis Clifford’s team building this year, we caught up with him to find out why this time he went outside and secured Knaggs’ services for this season: “There were a few areas I felt we needed to strengthen in at the end of last season. A left handed puck moving defenceman was high up my list of priorities. Having known and coached Knaggsy since he was a very young man I knew he ticked the right boxes.”
In adding to the defensive lines, it is Knaggs’ versatility and composure which particularly appeals to Cliff as he prepares the team for next year: “Knaggsy is a calm head, he plays with his head up and can make plays from the back end as well as joining the rush and pulling the strings on the PP.”
Ed is thrilled to be making his return to a place which has fond memories and has been a big part of his career so far: “I am really excited to have signed back with MKL. Milton Keynes is where I first started playing hockey so will always feel like home.”
Was it an easy decision to make the move back? Ed told us: “When Cliff approached and explained his plans for the upcoming season it was a no brainer!”
For Cliff, too, it was an easy decision to re-sign Ed and bring him home. He finished by saying: “I’m very much looking forward to having Knaggsy back in our team and to seeing him back at the club where he started.”
Welcome back Knaggsy. We missed you for the last couple of years and it’s great to have you back home.
