Matt Smital Leaves AIB MK Lightning
Matt Smital will no longer play for AIB MK Lightning. We will be finalising departure arrangements with Matt over the next week. Matt joined MK Lightning at the start of the 2021/22 season and made 37 league appearances during that season, positing a .883 save percentage. In the playoffs he grabbed a shutout vs. Leeds Knights setting Lightning on the path to the Coventry weekend. Three AIB MK Lightning Players Earn GB U20s Selection for World Championships
Huge congratualtions to three AIB MK Ligthning players who have been called up for GB U20 World Championships duty this December! Well done to Zaine McKenzie and Mack Stewart who make the squad and Milique Martelly who is on the reserve list. The travelling team will leave for Lithuania for a team camp on Tuesday 6th December immediately prior to the World Championships in Kaunas, Lithuania returning to the UK on Sunday 18h December. Deivids Sarkanis Visa Update – we are 9 weeks into a 3 week process
A few of you have asked some questions about Deivids Sarkanis visa application and when we might see this approved. We wanted to give some clarity on some of the questions which have been raised to us: When did MKL apply for a sponsor’s licence and when did we receive it: we applied for this and received it in summer 2021, and renewed it in May 2022 (it’s an annual renewal) so it has been in place since summer 2021 When did we apply for Deivids' visa: we started the process soon after Deivids had signed. AIB MK Lightning Supports Remembrance Day 2022
Commemoration of Remembrance Day has always been a huge part of the Milton Keynes Lightning season, and this year is no exception. As a club, we are committed supporters of the Royal British Legion through the amazing fundraising efforts of the Milton Keynes Lightning Supporters Club. This year, we will be commemorating Remembrance Day at our fixture on Saturday 12th November against Telford Tigers. During that fixture, we will play in our commemorative jersey, and will welcome representatives of the Royal British Legion to join us for a presentation ceremony. Player Sponsor Evening in VIP
We are hugely grateful for all our sponsors at AIB MK Lightning. On Saturday 8th October we hosted all the "Player Sponsors" in the VIP area for the evening to watch the match against Basingstoke Bison. As part of their valued Player Sponsorship, sponsors get their name read out when their player does something good like a score a goal, or something not so good like penalty. MK Lightning help with a Charity Calendar
Yesterday evening MK Lightning helped with a Charity Calendar photo shoot. The 12 images on the Calendar are all profiling ladies to represent their background and their battle with Cancer. The calendar will be on sale soon, as well as an exhibition of the photos. The lovely Jane put on all the gear and was helped out onto the ice by Bobby and Sloth before posing with Hedley and Smital for photos. Sarkanis update, Laishram to Lace Up for Lightning this weekend
We are currently awaiting final approval from UK immigration for Deivids Sarkanis to join up with the team, in a process which is going on longer than we had hoped. Every box is ticked from our end, and we’re hopeful that we will get the green light soon. Deivids can’t wait to get on the plane from Riga!
