On Tuesday 12th May, MK Lightning’s very own Ed Knaggs #25 and player sponsor James Tye (Cadet Forces Medal Mounting) attended a Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace.

James has volunteered with the Royal Air Force Air Cadets for the past 22 years, dedicating his time to training young people in aviation studies, military skills, and much more. In recognition of his outstanding dedication and service to the community, he was nominated by the Lord-Lieutenant of Bedfordshire to attend the Royal Garden Party hosted by HM King Charles III.

Not only did we have these two in attendance, but fans and season ticket holders Pat Tye and Carolyn Tye were also invited to the prestigious event, recognising Pat’s service to 134 (Bedford) Squadron Air Cadets as Chairman of their Civilian Committee.

Following the Garden Party, guests enjoyed afternoon tea, performances from the military bands, and a walk around the grounds of Buckingham Palace before being invited on a private tour of the Tower of London to witness the Ceremony of the Keys, the ancient nightly locking of the Tower which holds the Crown Jewels, which has taken place every evening without fail since the 14th century.

A fantastic and richly deserved honour for all involved, congratulations from everyone at the MK Lightning.
