Milton Keynes Lightning is delighted to announce the signing of defence stalwart Joshua Saunders, who joins the club ahead of the 2025/26 season. A commanding presence on the blue line, Saunders brings elite experience and a proven track record of strong performances in the UK’s top-tier leagues.

Saunders, born in Edinburgh on 27 February 2006, stands at 183 cm and weighs 84 kg. Most recently skating for the Dundee Stars in the Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL), he appeared in 7 league games this past season, contributing solid defensive play.  His EIHL debut was for the Fife Flyers further showcased his adaptability and readiness for high-level competition.

Earlier in 2024, Saunders represented Great Britain at the U18 IIHF World Championship Division II Group A, a testament to his defensive acumen and ability to shut down top-tier competition.

Joshua said  “I’m really excited to be joining MKL this season. The team had a great season last year, and I’m looking to hit the ground running and contribute to continued success this year.”

Head Coach Tim Wallace said
“Josh is a big, strong player with a heavy shot and a physical edge to his game. He’s got some real poise and maturity in how he plays, and I see a ton of potential in him. This is a big move for Josh, but he’s committed to doing whatever it takes to improve and help us win hockey games.”

Joshua will wear the number 26  jersey, which is available from to Own and Loan from when the news is released.
