Milton Keynes Lightning are proud to announce that James Griffin will return to the club for the 2025/26 season.
Fresh off a campaign that saw him lift the Playoff trophy and celebrate his Testimonial year, Griffin brings back his trademark blend of physical play, speed, and goal-scoring flair to the Lightning blue line. A true leader both on and off the ice, his presence in the dressing room and on the rink will once again be pivotal as the team eyes more silverware this season.
Last season, Griffin scored the opening goal in the Playoff Final in Coventry, setting the tone for an unforgettable win. Over the course of the 52 regular-season games, he contributed 2 goals and 3 assists, but his biggest impact came through his leadership, hard hits, and unrelenting commitment — characteristics that have defined his career.
James said:
“Coming back for another season with the Lightning was an easy decision. Lifting the Playoff trophy, celebrating my Testimonial, and sharing it all with our amazing fans – it’s something I’ll never forget. MKL is a special place to be – I can’t wait to get back on the ice, play in front of the Barmy Army, and hopefully add more silverware to the cabinet this season!”
Head Coach Tim Wallace:
“I’m thrilled to have Griff back for another year. He’s exactly the kind of player and person we want wearing a Lightning jersey. He continues to improve every season and did an outstanding job as our Captain last year. I expect him to keep leading by example with his hard‑nosed, relentless style of play.”
As a proven physical presence on the ice, Griffin combines robust defensive responsibilities with offensive drive, powered by strong skating and a relentless work ethic. Now heading into his 11th season with MK Lightning, his experience and consistency will play a major role in the club’s push for more trophies.
James will wear the number 15 jersey, which is available from to Own and Loan now.
