Milton Keynes Lightning can today confirm that defenceman Ben Solder will not be returning for the 2025/26 season, as he takes the next step in his career by signing with an Elite League team.
Ben joined MKL ahead of the 2023/24 season and has gone on to become one of the team’s most dependable and impactful players. Known for his strong positioning, smart puck decisions, and physical presence on the blue line, Solder has steadily grown into one of the National League’s top defencemen — a transformation that has now earned him the opportunity to compete at the highest level of British ice hockey.
Reflecting on his time at the club, Ben shared the following message:
“I would like to thank fans, staff, players and anyone associated with the MKL organisation for the past two years I have spent playing for the Lightning. To fans, you guys are without a doubt the best in the league and your support means the world to me and the team. You guys are truly special!!!”
“It’s with regret I am moving on, but I have been offered an opportunity that I simply can’t turn down. To staff, I thank you for everything you guys have done for me — your hard work in my eyes definitely doesn’t go unnoticed. To the boys, I love you guys — I wish each and every one of you the best in the future. Special thanks to my sponsor over the last two seasons @CRAWFORDHAIR. I will miss your naughty trims😉.”
“MKL, it’s been an honour.”
– Ben Solder
Head Coach Tim Wallace paid tribute to Ben’s development and character, as well as the significance of his move:
“We’re proud to announce that Solds is making the step up to the Elite League — a move that reflects both his dedication and the development pathway we strive to provide here at Milton Keynes.”
“Solds has been one of our most reliable and impactful defensemen. When he’s locked in, he’s incredibly difficult to play against — winning battles, making smart decisions with the puck, and contributing at both ends of the ice. His progression is a testament to the hard work he’s put in and the kind of environment we aim to create for every player who comes through our system.”
“Ultimately, this is what we want for all of our players: to grow, to compete, and to earn the opportunity to perform at the highest level possible. We wish Solds all the best in the next chapter of his career.”
Everyone at MK Lightning would like to thank Ben for his professionalism, passion, and the lasting impact he has made both on and off the ice. We look forward to watching his continued success in the Elite League and beyond.
Ben leaves the Lightning having made a lasting impression both on the ice and in the dressing room, with his game evolving significantly under the MKL system. His departure is bittersweet – while the club is sad to see him go, everyone at Milton Keynes Lightning is proud of the progress he’s made and excited to watch what comes next.
