He had the best NIHL National debut, with assured, confident end to end play, and a Man of the Match award. That’s why we couldn’t be more excited to reveal that Milique Martelly has agreed to a two way contract with AIB MK Lightning. We are hugely grateful to Streatham IHC and their Head Coach Michael Farn for making this possible.
17 year old Milique started life as a roller hockey player, and first took to skates when he was just 18 months old. He started playing competitive junior hockey around 7 years ago, and has developed quickly into one of the country’s top defensive prospects.
He has spent his entire career so far with Streatham, Captaining the U15 and U18 sides and managed to pick up over a point per game through his career, even at senior level in the NIHL 1, where he’s scored 1 goal and 8 assists in 8 games. This is thanks to his mobility, confidence and willingness to get up the ice.
AIB MKL Head Coach Lewis Clifford had this to say about Milique: “Obviously it’s plain to see how talented Milique is, I have heard loads of people around the rink talking about him since his cameo appearance last Saturday, bringing him in on a more formal basis will be great not only for us as a club, but also for his development and, in turn, for his team in Streatham.”
“I know there are other teams in the league that would have liked to take Milique on a 2-Way or even as a full time player, but I must thank Michael Farn for helping him come to this decision as we know each other well and he knows MK is a great fit for this arrangement.”
“We will use Milique as much as possible when he doesn’t have a game with Streatham, and I will be in constant contact with Farny regarding his performances for both clubs and what we can both do as coaches to help push him towards his undoubted potential.”
Streatham IHC Head Coach, and former MKL star Michael Farn said: “When I signed Milique in advance of the current season, I knew he would become a valuable member of our team but the impact he has had in such a short space of time is no surprise with the commitment and hard work he brings every time we are at the rink.
It’s vital that Milique gets the opportunity to skate as much as he can and continue his development. Having this 2 way with MK is a great opportunity for Milique which will be a great benefit to both clubs.
I’d like to thank Cliff and MKL for allowing Milique this opportunity and I know he will be in good hands as and when he is available to ice in MK.”
Milique had this to say about the 2-way: ““I’m really happy to have signed the 2 way with MK Lightning. I’ve had an unreal last couple weeks with the team and coaches and iit made my decision easy! The support Cliff and Michael Farn have given me and my parents to make the decision has been great. I really couldn’t have asked for more”
We let Milique finish by sharing how he found his first NIHL National game in the MK arena. He said “The fans in MK are amazing! The atmosphere versus Raiders was unreal I loved every minute of it”.
What a talent, and what a human. We can’t wait for you to play again Milique.
