Returning for a second season with Smith Recycling Milton Keynes Lightning is shot-stopper Brandon Stones who joined us at the beginning of last year from Sheffield.  Brandon played 21 times for MKL, posting a .894 save percentage last season which was disrupted by an injury a couple of months into the schedule.  Despite this, he was a tremendous presence in the locker room and around the club and won the Coach’s Player of the Year at the end of season awards.

Nottingham born Stones played his junior hockey in that city before spells across Sheffield, Edinburgh and Coventry in the Elite League, and a number of EPIHL and NIHL seasons at Sheffield via Telford.  He has represented GB at under 18 level.

Brandon is the first of our netminding tandem to be revealed this year, and Head Coach Lewis Clifford is delighted to have him back for a second year: “Stonesy is the type of guy you would always want in your team, a selfless guy who always puts the team first and brings a lot of positivity and dedication to the locker room.”

He added: “Last year was tough for him picking up an injury early and then finding himself left out of the line up a lot when we had 3 goalies, but his commitment never strayed and he continued to be a huge part of the team.”

Brandon is excited about re-signing: “I’m really pleased to be coming back to MK for a second season. Last year didn’t quite finish how we had hoped so I felt like a lot of the boys did, that there was unfinished business. When Cliff started talking to me about next season I already knew I wanted to stay and be part of the MKL family.”

He finished by saying “I’m really excited to get back and get going, I like the direction we’re heading and I know we will be contending for silverware.”

Cliff summed up his thoughts about Brandon: “I’m really happy to have Stonesy back, a great guy off the ice and a great goalie on it, I’m looking forward to having him on board, fit, strong and ready to go.”

Welcome back, Brandon!  You had some excellent performances between the pipes last year and we’re all looking forward to seeing you get a great run this year!
